I won a very small prize in one of the late Tony Hart’s superb television programmes when I was about fourteen, and that fuelled a love for everything crafty and colourful. I’ve had a go at calligraphy, pottery, sculpture, upholstery – anything to let me wear ‘my creative hat’ while bringing up our three sons, keeping my husband sane in a very stressful job, holding down various part time jobs, and looking after a substantial menagerie of various creatures over the years.
I did an A-level in art in 1987 and have dabbled in watercolours and acrylics since then, until finding a superb and most wonderful tutor, Jan Janes, in 2000. With Jan's encouragement I decided to take a BA (Fine Art) degree at Winchester School of Art, and completed three years (of six, part time), but after much frustration and heartache decided that their interpretation of 'education' was somewhat different from mine, and left the course. I have returned to classes with Jan and feel I get more out of her classes than I ever did at Winchester!
I belong to both Art 14 and ArtSeen, groups of artists based between Winchester and Southampton in Hampshire, and enjoy their friendship and exhibition opportunities.
I am an active member of Chandlers Ford Art Group and exhibit with them annually.
